Solo Disposables Help Operators Go Green

Solo Cup Solo Cup Co. (Highland Park, IL) is rolling out a variety of environmentally friendly plates, cups and containers to meet growing demand for greener servingware solutions. Bare by Solo plates, bowls and takeout containers are made with sugarcane, a renewable material, and are compostable via commercial composting practices.

The ivory-colored sugarcane dinnerware plates and bowls feature a trendy, square design. They are soak-through resistant and come in 6.7”, 8.25” and 10” sizes. The bowl is offered in a 12-oz. size. In addition to the sugarcane products, Solo’s medium-weight 6” and 9” paper plates and 12-oz. paper bowls also are now certified compostable and being added to the Bare line. The 9” plate comes in a new deep-well design that is 50% stronger than the previous form.

Solo’s new sugarcane takeout containers have a one-piece hinged clamshell design in 6” and 9” sizes and provide an environmentally preferable alternative to polystyrene foam containers. The 9” size is also offered with three compartments.

Solo has added compostable treated paper cold cups to its Bare by Solo line, as well. Lined with wax rather than standard polyethylene, the cups are made with 50% renewable resources. They can be composted in a dedicated commercial facility. The cups come in the stock Bare design, white or custom prints, and are available in capacities from 3 fl.oz. to 44 fl.oz. They are offered in the Bare print in 3-, 5-, 7-, 8-, 9-, 10-, 12-, 16- and 22-oz. sizes. Single-lid solutions fit multiple cup sizes.

Solo Cup Additionally, new Bare by Solo deli containers and lids, made with 20% post-consumer recycled polyethylene plastic, are recyclable and provide glass-like clarity in an environmentally preferable format. The recycled-content deli containers replace Solo’s current DeliGourmet containers made entirely from virgin PET. They are available in 8-, 12-, 16-, 24- and 32-oz. sizes and handle food product temperatures from 20 °F to 160 °F. All sizes share a common lid with optimum fit to reduce leakage and maintain food freshness.

Another new waste-cutting solution from Solo is its Reveal line of clear polypropylene cups that are offered in sizes ranging from 12 fl.oz. to 44 fl.ozs. A single lid fits most cups, which helps operators increase efficiency by reducing SKUs and cutting waste. Reveal straight-wall cups are available in 12-, 14-, 16-, 18-, 20- and 24-fl.oz. sizes, with a single lid fitting all six. The 32-fl.oz. and 44-fl.oz. Go Cup brand cups come in clear, white or two stock prints, with one lid fitting both.
