Sega Debuts Quasimoto GameGate Viddie Console Adapter For Coin-Op

Sega, ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL -- Sega Amusements USA has teamed up with noted classic game emulator designer Quasimoto (Wadsworth, OH) to develop a high-tech cabinet, display and sound system that accommodates the operator's choice of either a Microsoft Xbox or Sony PlayStation home videogame consoles.

The GameGate Video Upright includes a 32" high-definition monitor (plus video output for an external television set or projector) and a sound system incorporating high-powered stereo speakers and a subwoofer, with an audio output jack. It can accommodate headphones. A coin mechanism is standard, and the machine can be fitted with bill validators and/or card readers.

The GameGate is shipped with six months of free licensing to run up to 500 games (either Xbox or PlayStation). After the startup period, the operator pays a $20 monthly licensing fee for each unit. GameGate notifies the operator when the license requires renewal.

An operator signs an end-user licensing agreement upon his or her first GameGate purchase. This designates the operator as an official GameGate user; it grants the necessary permissions from Microsoft and Sony, as well as Quasimoto, Sega and the other parties involved. The game program is loaded from an optical disk, which the operator can change as needed.

While the GameGate VU ships without a game console, Sega Amusements recommends that its distributors bundle it with the game console of the operator's choice.

Designed to attract attention on location, GameGate features a 3/16" tempered glass bezel, a tempered glass game panel and a backlit marquee that's easy to customize with specific game titles; game instructions also are provided on an easily switched trans-illuminated display. Side panels offer an eye-catching colored LED light show, and a scrolling green LED display board is mounted beneath the marquee. The game is supplied with commercial handheld controller brackets and is equipped with headphone volume-control buttons. The undercarriage provides leg-levelers and casters for easy relocation.

Quasimoto is the manufacturer of the ArcadeStation home videogame system.
