CHARLOTTE, NC -- Snyder's-Lance Inc. has acquired O'Byrne Distributing Inc., a snack food distributor serving the Augusta, GA, area, in its latest move to strengthen its national distribution network.
O'Byrne operates a direct-store delivery system that distributes Snyder's-Lance-branded products, along with other snack food lines.
The O'Byrne routes will be integrated with the Snyder's-Lance's substantial DSD network. Snyders-Lance said the move will provide a number of benefits, including the ability to better service its retail partners with core branded products while leveraging supply chain and other efficiencies.
Lance Inc. merged with Pennsylvania's Snyder's of Hanover Inc. in December 2010. The merger created a combined company with a national distribution footprint and sizeable DSD network that's large enough to compete with PepsiCo's Frito-Lay in the salty snacks business.
Based in Charlotte, NC, the company has since expanded its DSD network through a combination of acquisitions and organic growth.
Snyder's-Lance's portfolio includes pretzels, sandwich crackers, potato chips, cookies, tortilla chips and nuts under such brands as Snyder's of Hanover, Lance, Cape Cod, Tom's, Jays, O-Ke-Doke, Stella D'oro, Krunchers! and Archway.
