NEW PALTZ, NY -- The State University of New York at New Paltz is teaming up with its vending provider, Pepsi Cola of Hudson Valley, to deliver essential items to students and faculty at any hour of the day through a Shop24 automated store.

The 9-ft.-tall refrigerated vending machine, made by Shop24 Global LLC (Columbus, OH), is already on SUNY's Cortland and Morrisville campuses in upstate New York. With a 10x13-ft. footprint, the automated campus stores carry snacks, beverages, meals, personal hygiene products, laundry detergent and over-the-counter medications, among other items

Shop24 can stock up to 200 common convenience items ranging in weight from less than 1 oz. up to 8 lbs. Patrons can pay with cash, credit and debit cards, campus dining cards, Flex Cards and supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP) cards.

"Shop24 is on the cutting edge of automated retailing, and we at Pepsi are excited to be involved as the daily operator for SUNY New Paltz's unit," said Tom Strahle, vice-president and chief operating officer of Hudson Valley Pepsi.

"We are excited to be offering a service for students that improves on campus living through access to essential items at any hour of the day," added Steve Deutsch, executive director of campus auxiliary services.

Shop24 Global, based in Columbus, OH, recently installed a unit at Ohio Northern University (Ada, OH) in collaboration with Kroger supermarkets. It has machines installed at other universities, as well as apartment complexes. In January, Lynd Co., a property manager, signed a deal to place two automated stores at two of its apartment complexes in the Dallas area. Last year, a Shop24 placed at the Fairstone at Riverview in Taylorsville, UT, representing the first placement in an apartment complex.
