NEW BALTIMORE, MI -- Gene Rorah, who founded Michigan Merchandisers almost half a century ago, is dead at the age of 85. Michigan Merchandisers, which dates back to 1964, became one of the first specialized food brokers to cater to the full-line vending industry.
Rorah also owned and operated a manufacturing company that supplied fountain syrup for postmix cold drink machines, whose immense popularity in the 1960s and '70s helped fuel the full-line vending revolution. He was a founding member of the National Vend Brokers Association, one of the first organizations that served as a "one-stop shop" for suppliers seeking national representation in the vending industry.
Michigan Merchandisers, now run by Scott W. Rorah, covers all of lower Michigan and nine counties in northern Ohio.
Gene Rorah died on Sept. 18, a few weeks before his 86th birthday, his family reported; and he will be missed.
