GAITHERSBURG, MD -- Sodexo is raising the bar on its healthy vending initiatives by providing more food and beverage selections that meet the company's own nutritional criteria in every machine.
The upgraded Your Health Your Way On-the-Go program now devotes 30% of the machine menu -- up from 20% -- to products that adhere to guidelines limiting calories, saturated fat and sodium. The initiative was unveiled six years ago.
In addition to icons that inspire healthy choices, the program leverages a website -- yourhealthyourwayonline.com -- to educate customers on the impact good choices can have on well being. While the average "Your Health Your Way" machine has a 30% mix of approved items, the program also offers the option of machines 100% stocked with "healthy" options.
"We hear so often that health and convenience do not go hand in hand," said Nasim Salimi, president of Sodexo's vending division. "But in a time when comprehensive wellness programs are commonplace for organizations, we cannot ignore that vending should and can be a part of the solution. A vending selection can be an impulse purchase, a casual splurge, or a quick meal or beverage while on the go. This program is versatile and provides options for whatever the customer is looking to purchase."
