TOKYO -- Japanese lingerie maker Wacoal is testing vending for retail support. The machine, which made its first appearance at the company's Une Nana Cool specialty shop in Tokyo's Shibuya shopping district, is on tour and making stops at several company stores.
According to local reports, the vending machine dispenses a selection of sizes from the company's Fun Fun Week bra line for about $30 apiece. One of the advantages of vending, a store manager said, is that customers do not have to confide size to shop personnel. (Vending personal items in Japan is not new, has found favor by eliminating the need for human interaction when purchasing items that might cause embarrassment.)
Wacoal has not announced plans to offer the vender as a shopping option at all its stores. Comments regarding the machine on social media sites in Japan have been mixed, and some speculated the machine is simply one of Wacoal's publicity stunts.
