GLENVIEW, IL -- Kraft has announced a promotion for vending operators to simplify their adding popular premium chewing gum brands to their confection mix. Operators can order retrofittable gum and mint shelves designed to accommodate today's greater variety of package sizes and shapes, including the brand-new Split2Fit pack for premium Dentyne Ice gum.
Traditional gum and mint adapters are limited to the once-universal 5-stick gum package and classic cylindrical roll-candy wrap. Kraft's new tray, from Vendors Exchange International, is designed to retrofit widely used glassfront snack machines from Automatic Products and Crane National Vendors, increasing their capacity and selectivity. Kraft notes that the NPD Group's SnackTrack Service 2010 study identified gum as the second-most popular snack category.
Specially configured to merchandise more of the gum and mint brands that contemporary consumers desire, including Trident, Stride and Dentyne, the trays provide a vehicle for vending larger packages that command prices of $1 or more in convenience stores.
According to operator Scott Meskin of Black Tie Services (Baltimore), the Kraft upgrade kit gets results. "When I added the tray, my total machine sales jumped by 15% to 20%," he reported. "Nothing leaves here without a gum and mint tray."
