FAIRFIELD, CA -- The famed maker of gourmet jellybeans is rolling out the Jelly Belly Bulk Vend Machine, which allows customers to create their own jellybean mixes. Modeled after the self-serve bulk displays in Jelly Belly stores, the vending machine uses five in-line vertical product magazines to stock inventory in bulk.
Jellybean assortments are vended for $2, $4 and $6 for 2.5-oz., 5-oz. and 7-oz. portions, respectively. The Jelly Belly machine, which is DEX capable, uses an MEI payment system that validates cash, reads debit and credit cards, and can accommodate NFC transactions. However, operators can equip the machine with their preferred payment systems.
Jellybeans are dispensed into a cup. The vending machine employs a "robot arm" to collect the product, and this mechanism is displayed behind a clear panel so patrons can view their selections and the mixing process. Bulk assortments range from such bestselling flavors as the 49 Flavor Mix to the Citrus Mix; patrons can also customize mixes. Each of the five bulk bins holds 25 lbs. of jellybeans.
When a vend is initiated, the robotic arm moves forward, backward, left and right, receives a cup from the turret and positions it under the correct cylindrical bin for filling. Once the order is filled, the arm delivers the order to the door where the patron can retrieve it.
The Jelly Belly innovation uses a machine design by Ducale, a 60-year-old manufacturer of vending equipment based in Parma, Italy. It measures 33.5" W. x 24.4" D. x 72" H., and uses low-energy consumption LED lighting.
Jelly Belly is no stranger to vending, having marketed vend packs of its popular confections for years. The confection company offers 1.2-oz. bags of chocolate-covered jellybeans and 1.45-oz. bags in 20 assorted flavors for full-line snack machines. It offers more than 50 products in its popular Grab & Go line.
Initial orders for the Jelly Belly Bulk Vend Machine will include 300 lbs. of free jellybeans. Jelly Belly can be reached at (800) 323-9380.
