Gehl Foods GERMANTOWN, WI -- New from Gehl Foods is a line of yogurt-based drinks designed for transport at ambient temperature. Called Main St. Café Protein Smoothies, they're available in strawberry, peach and mixed berry flavors. The line is packaged in 11-fl.oz. bottles with an unrefrigerated shelf life of six months. Suggested vend price is $2.

Each 11-fl.oz. serving contains 10g. of dairy protein and provides 30% of the daily recommended value for calcium. It is formulated with real yogurt, made fresh onsite. An aseptic process heats the product to food-safe temperature; it is bottled in a sterile environment. According to the manufacturer, an important objective in designing the product, and the aseptic process used to prepare and bottle it, was maintenance of the smoothies' fresh, creamy taste throughout distribution.

"We're packaging today's dairy trends to fit consumers' busy lives," said Gehl Foods sales and marketing vice-president John Slawny. "Main St. Café combines the appeal of foodservice smoothies and niche protein products in a fresh, simple way for the broader beverage market."

Gehl Foods is a leader in ready-to-serve aseptically packaged foods and beverages, formulated to lock in dairy freshness without refrigeration. The company has pioneered shelf-stable processing technologies for foodservice products since the 1960s, and the new Main St. Café beverage line will enable it to expand into retail markets, too.

Information on Gehl's dairy product is available here.
