| AVTI Unveils Next-Generation Vender, Technology SuiteFor Bidirectional Communications Tim Sanford YORBA LINDA, CA — Automated Vending Technologies Inc. took the wraps off its new RAM 4000 vending machine, a refrigerated combination snack and packaged-beverage vender with GPRS communications capability built onto the controller board. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a feature of GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) mobile telephones that permits them to send data across a packet-switching network (like the Internet). AVTI worked with Cingular Wireless and Sony Ericsson to develop the bidirectional Vending Management System communications system integrated into the RAM 4000, and the associated VMS software suite.
| | Ecast And Partners Award $2 Million In Jukeboxes Nick Montano SAN FRANCISCO — Ecast, a leading provider of digital music to downloading jukeboxes, reported that its recent sales promotion awarded more than $2 million in free jukebox hardware to music vendors nationwide. The “Get One Free” jukebox promotion, which ran from January 1 through March 31, triggered one of the strongest quarterly expansions in the digital music category, and is being followed by a similar promotion that kicked off on April 1.

NEW YORKCITY — The ball gum segment of the bulk vending market is about to get very interesting. The Topps Co. Inc. has announced plans to re-launch its legendary Bazooka bubblegum in a wide variety of brand extensions, including bulk-vendible ball gum. Although still one of the best-known brands of gum in the U.S., Bazooka has been languishing somewhat over the past few years, overshadowed by the firm’s other lines of confections and trading cards. Now poised for a resurgence, the Bazooka brand, which has been reported to have sold 30 billion pieces during its more than half-century history, is about to reintroduce itself to the marketplace.
