CHICAGO — The board of directors of the National Automatic Merchandising Association has voted to consolidate the National and Spring Expos into an entirely new springtime event.
The first of these is scheduled for April 28-30, 2010, at McCormick Place North in Chicago, and the next for April 27-29, 2011. It is likely that future shows will rotate between Chicago and Las Vegas.
Announcing the decision, NAMA president and chief executive officer Richard M. Geerdes explained that the board decided that “the time is right to refresh our event to a more powerful ‘must attend’ marketplace – one where everyone will converge at one time and place, allowing them to do everything at once.
“This combined show will become the place to go for all new solutions, ideas, education, products and services, and connections to ensure that those attending will leave with a distinct competitive advantage,” Geerdes predicted. “At the end of the day, members of our industry are going to say, ‘Wow! That was sensational!’”
The association said that the advantages of a single show include enabling manufacturers and suppliers to focus their marketing efforts and new product introductions more effectively, providing substantial cost savings to exhibitors and registrants alike, and assembling all the industry’s decision-makers under one roof at the same time. Moreover, a single event is more environment-friendly because it eliminates the “carbon footprint” of an entire trade show.
“Coffee service, foodservice, vending, suppliers, operators, association members and nonmembers will all come together at the same time in the same place year after year, which means we will become a more unified community,” Geerdes pointed out. Everyone will save money, too, through lower annual exhibit cost and savings on travel and accommodations.
The board also has decided to build on the success of NAMA’s first Coffee Summit by launching an even stronger, harder-hitting two-day educational program for the coffee community.
The NAMA president noted that the association has been planning for “this electrifying new event” for several years, and has determined that the time has come to take action. Full details on the plan will be published in the near future.“More than anything else, this is an opportunity for our industry to help everyone succeed,” Geerdes summed up. “We are showcasing this sensational event to ensure a prosperous new future for the vending, coffee service and foodservice industries.”
