TUKWILA, WA -- Avanti Markets said it is planning to release a patent-pending product to help combat theft in its micromarkets.
The technology will allow consumers to see the latest purchases on an external monitor, along with some of the top-selling items within the market. It will create another level of theft prevention by letting micromarket patrons view whether or not their fellow employees paid for the items they have in hand when they exit the market area. Timestamps will make it easy for the operator to monitor the cameras or review footage at any time.
Avanti said it plans to release the antitheft device by the end of the second quarter.
"The question operators always ask me is how can they better control theft in the market, and while we can never fully control it without costly expenses, this patent-pending product will allow for preventative measures," said Avanti chief executive Jim Brinton.
